Questions To Ask A Painting Contractor “Before” You Hire Them!
Do I need to do anything before you start?
We ask that you pack away all of your precious items, valuables, chachkies, and other personals. A general rule of thumb, If it’s not getting painted, please move it out of the work area. As much as you can have put away, the better. We will be happy to help you with anything that is more challenging to move.
What sort of prep work will you do?
Prep is relative to the requirements of the project. Having roots in the Painter’s Union and its apprenticeship programs, our recommendations reflect current industry standards and what is best for the characteristics of the surface. The Painting Contractors of America (PCA) Standards is an amazing reference tool we consult to align with industry standards and practices. Please reference the standards in full detail here.
How long will the project take?
Once an estimate is done, we will know how much time the project will take to complete. One of our team members will give you an estimated time to complete a project based on the hours included in the estimate.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Our clients are looking for consistency in quality and service. The only way to offer this is to train employees in-house.
How many people do you have working for you? How long have they been with your company? What is your screening process?
We currently have six painters on our team. Tenure ranges from 9 years on board to green. We are always looking for new people to join us! All employees receive a full background check and driving history. We take the same care in hiring our staff as we would inviting them into your home.
Where will you store your tools and supplies?
We will agree with the owner on a designated storage area. This could be in a storage area provided by the owner or in our company trailer. The trailer is locked after hours while on the owner’s property.
Do you have any warranties?
Yes! We offer a 2-Year Exterior Painting Limited Warranty. This means we take responsibility for our work by guaranteeing performance for the next two consecutive years. In the event of coating failure or improper application, we will mitigate the issue at no cost to you. That’s right! We’ll take care of the labor and materials if we don’t get it right the first time.
Who do I contact if I have a question or problem?
Once project start date is scheduled, a field manager will reach out to you with his or her contact information. For any issues relating to service requests, billing and other inquiries, please call the main number and we will call you back within 1-2 business days.
How do you make sure everyone is working safely?
O.R. Painting utilizes OSHIFY, a safety program implementation software, to teach our team to identify safety hazards. We encourage everyone on our team to help each other work as safely as possible and to be transparent. An easy, comprehensive safety program is what will keep our team on track and accountable to themselves and to each other. Safety is extremely important to us and we want to do all we can to ensure everyone goes home safe to their families every night. Technology has made having a comprehensive safety program manageable and easy to follow. Technology is a huge part of our day-to-day, so when we brought in an app to help us out, the team naturally embraced the technology while infusing it into our culture. We take safety seriously.
What type of paint do you use?
The type of paint is project specific. Many factors go into choosing the right paint system for your project. Our professional estimators are here to make the right recommendations. The products come from one of our choice vendors (Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore or a boutique item from O-Gee Paints), and we put forth every effort to make the right recommendation for you.
